Jenn asked for funny Tom stories, so here's mine. Joy Rowan recounted it to me on the phone the other night and we were both laughing remembering it.
Joy and I had gone out while Jay and Mark were deployed, and Jenn and Tom and the girls had offered to babysit Alex, our daughter who was still crawling. When we returned home, Alex was wearing a shirt off of Ashlie's teddy bear (she had spilled on what she was wearing) and was navigating some sort of maze that Tom and Ashlie had constructed out of pillows. Using Alex as their human experiment, they were trying to see how well she could low crawl through the maze to get the treat at the end.
Total Tom. Always great with kids, always had a smile on his face. Wonderful loving husband, devoted father, true friend and Ranger. He will be missed by so many friends. We were blessed to have known Tom. Surely he is resting in the arms of the Lord.
We love you Jenn, Ashlie and Jess. We are so sorry for your loss.

This picture was taken at Mark's CoC. I wanted to post it (even the the cute kid is not mine:) because one of my most enduring and endearing memories of Tom is his love of kids and babies. Few people are such naturals with babies and get such genuine pleasure from them. Tom loved all kids; his own, his friends, and even perfect strangers. He was that guy in a restaurant making silly faces at the baby at the next table.
As I enter in to parenthood myself, I feel grateful to have had Tom and Jenn as such wonderful role models. Ashlie and Jess are such amazing young women and it is a testament to the loving, caring, fun (but also sometimes strict:) family enviroment Tom and Jenn created.

Tommy,
I've been reading the posts as they are added. The consensus is that you were an amazing and highly respected person with a wonderful sense of humor and unsurpassed love for your "girls," Jenn, Ashlie and Jess. How could I possibly add any more?
I'm recalling one early December morning receiving a phone call from you: "I'm a DAD!" I can still hear you saying it like it was yesterday. Such joy. You had such pride in having received Ashlie from God, and now having not two but three beautiful girls entrusted to your care.
Fast forward a few years to October 2006, when my husband sent out an email to our family and friends reporting the birth of our second child, Micaela. The responses poured in, but the most touching one was from you. You said, "One of the few things that chokes me up is when I see or hear of a newborn baby. That is one of the many great gifts that we are so lucky to receive from God."
Thank you for the person you have always been. Rest comfortably. I know you are in God's beautiful place (and no doubt have the angels laughing!)
I miss you, dear friend.

Tomorrow is 3 years and I am torn between thinking, "has it already been 3 years???" and "has it only been 3 years???" Sometimes it feels like just weeks since I got that last email from you and sometimes it feels like an eternity since we talked.
Selfishly, I am thinking of how much I miss you, my dear friend, and how much I have wanted your shoulder to lean on this past year as my life's taken a 180.
Love you and miss you terribly.
Jackie
